Bill is a product of the television generation. Television was young and so was he when he first experienced the wonders of the then, little box. The screen was small and round and the only thing on was wrestling. Bill spent so many hours in front of that box his mother started to worry.
One of the earliest influence that TV had was a show was called "Winky Dink". This Saturday morning animated program was one of the first interactive programs on television. You ordered a kit that included a plastic film that adhered to the screen, an erasable marker and erasure. Winky was always in trouble but you as the viewer could help him out by drawing on the screen. Let’s say he was being chased by the bad guys, you could draw a bridge over the ravine for Winky to cross and then erase the bridge as the bad guys approached. Revolutionary! Bill was hooked.
Like every would be director, Bill started his professional career as a projectionist in the sixth grade. There was something about the feel of 16mm film in his hands and the wonder of light creating the flickering images on the screen. There still is.
Creating images is a very personal thing. To be a good storyteller is to see the images of the story in your minds eye and then translate those images to reality. Bill has been translating images for years, for himself and others. Bill is always ready to tell the story. Your story. And help you translate your images from his camera to the screen, no matter what size it is.
